The bright sun shined down on Misani as she stared up at the clear blue sky. A sense of peace for once in a long time settled over her. Laid out on the yacht with a book in her lap, YSL shades sitting atop her head and a bottled water at her side, Misani soaked up the rays and tanned her pale skin. The quick change of location and scenery was much needed. Kansas Cityâs weather had put a damper on her mood for the last four months, and a quick vacation south of the map is just what she needed.
Feeling overwhelmed with work and the pushback Malachi had been giving her, this short break was giving her time to recoup. It wasnât everyday Misani was given the luxury to just sit for a second and breathe. Even when she did end her night at home, her nights were restless, dreams sometimes haunted and soul tainted. When sheâd agreed to work for Xander those years ago, she didnât realize what a painful, lonely price sheâd have to pay. It was internal pain, but externally Misani looked as if she woke up on clouds every waking day.
The sound of Zariâs heels clicking against the tile heading her way pulled her out of her thoughts. In a gold 2-piece thong bathing suit from MAG Co. that was set to launch in a few weeks, Zari hovered over her friend. The material hugged her slim curves, and sheâd already posted a picture that gained thousands of likes in minutes. Misani didnât even bother to glance her way.
âWhatâre you reading?â Zari asked picking the turquoise colored book up from her lap. âEthic,â she mused before Misani kindly grabbed her shit back.
âDonât come up here bothering me,â she said adjusting her bikini top while sitting up. âWhat do you want?â
âOooh,â Zari chuckled. âYou shouldnât be in that funky mood of yours. Weâre on a yacht in the middle of the ocean with the best view.â
âI just have a lot on my mind. Sorry,â she sighed glancing her way.
Zari sat on the chair beside her and crossed her legs. âWhatâs the matter? I thought you said you needed a vacation?â
âI did, but I canât even enjoy it because I know this feeling will only last while weâre here. Having to do absolutely nothing and just bask in the sun. Itâs all so temporary.â
âI understand, but this was the life we signed up for remember? Those better days we stayed up late claiming weâd have are finally here, and itâs not temporary. Itâs for however long we continue to hustle, stack, save and stay out the way. What more could you need?â
Misani shook her head, not even wanting to go there with Zari today. She loved her girl to death, but sometimes she could be so superficial. Yes, the goal to have better days and make money had been met, but what comes after that? Misani wanted to know how much money it would take to make her happy for life.
